Chicago Homestay Reviews of our Home4Docs Property

Open since late April 2014, our homestay house is unique to the south side of Chicago and near south suburbs.

Unlike other area homestays you’ll be sharing a whole house with just a few housemates who are also IMGs in the process of completing their steps. Each guest has a private room and access to a shared kitchen, living room, and coin-free laundry.

If your clerkship or rotation is in the Oak Lawn, south Chicago near Mount Greenwood neighborhood or Beverly neighborhood, or Evergreen Park area, and you are not sure you’d like to book with us, listen to what our guests have to say. Hopefully they will answer some of your questions about the house, neighborhood, and what you can expect during your homestay.

  1. Caryn’s housing is ideal for the busy student! I am beyond thankful I found this place. It is located in a very safe and peaceful area with grocery stores and shopping just down the street. Caryn is such a kind and caring soul, she will periodically check up on you to make sure everything is comfortable and you have everything you need. She will go above and beyond for you, whether it be offering to give you a ride to work or in my case helping me brainstorm ideas and edit my personal statement for residency season. I was able to comfortably study for my USMLE Step 2ck and CS at her place and even found another roommate that I could study with! All roommates are also medical professionals and I definitely think this made living away from home easier for me. More then Chicago, I’m really going to miss her and her family 🙁

  2. The stay at Caryn’s was absolutely amazing! She is an amazing host!! Only a call away and will tend to anything you need. She’s so professional and the house was amazing! Great people, great area, and great environment! I recommend it to every medical student!!

  3. I had an amazing month here. Clean, quiet, friendly people. Caryn let me borrow a bike to ride to work which was very helpful. Full kitchen also which helped a lot. Would definitely recommend if you’d like to stay outside the city – very affordable and had an awesome time!

  4. This was a fantastic place to stay! Caryn was very welcoming and the stay was exactly as advertised. I highly recommend it for other traveling healthcare folks.

  5. What a cool place! An Airbnb where you get the chance to meet and collaborate with other medical professionals. A great experience for me, I had one issue towards the end of my stay and Caryn took care of it the next day 🙂 would definitely recommend.

  6. Caryn runs a very cozy place for med students to relax/call home while away on a rotation. I found my room in the basement to be comfortably, quiet, and nice and cool. Caryn is also a very great host in terms of responsiveness and helping us students with anything we need during our stay. In general the whole place is quiet, kept tidy, and an overall entertaining place to call home while on a rotation. You’ll regret not booking your stay here!

  7. I stayed at Blue island location for a month. A renovated place with all the amenities that I needed: washer and dryer, refrigerator, oven, microwave, coffee maker, iron, hair dryer,…. Transportation was easy and accessible via different Bus and Train stops nearby. It was a safe area and I did not feel anything wrong during my stay and also the bus stop that I used to go to my rotation office was 1 min away from the house. But apart from all of these the personality of Caryn as the manager of these accommodation ( home4docs ) was very nice. She help you in any aspect that you are thinking about during your stay to help you feel comfortable. She is not only professional but also hospitable. I really enjoyed my stay over there and I strongly recommend home4docs to others.

  8. No words can explain Caryn and her lovely family. She has been supportive from he first minutes I moved until now even after I moved out. Caryn cares for her guests so much and always try to keep them feel comfortable. She offered to pick me up in the first day. Also she takes her guests to the supermarket sometimes. I felt that I was part of her family. She gave me a novel to read, and one time she bought me a delicious dinner. The place is safe clean and comfortable, even better than what I expected. The furniture in my room was brand new, also the bathroom was new. It has everything medical students need, and price is way better than other places. In general, I definitely recommend this place for anyone, and I’m going to book with Caryn and Noel again.

  9. I don’t know how to start but I definitely believe I was EXTREMELY LUCKY by finding this place! Caryn is one of the KINDEST person I’ve ever met. She always cares about her guests and helps them with everything. Just ask her! And always with plenty of solutions and answers to your questions. You will quite feel like at home. The neighbourhood is SAFE and the public transport is easy to get (both CTA & PACE). A quite good supermarket is really close, & I went there very frequently by bike, which you can find at your homestay & for free, and took me around 5 mins. The house is fully furnished with fully equipped kitchen and a beautiful cozy backyard. Air conditioner works perfectly. Everything was so perfect! I definitely recommend this place to every doctor or med student.

  10. I stayed at Caryn’s place for a month. It was my very first time in the US and Caryn was the answer to all of my anxiety and apprehension. The place is beautiful, independent and is very thoughtfully furnished. It is within a five-minute walk to the 111th/Pulaski bus stop. The neighborhood is exclusively residential and safe. There are multiple departmental stores within a 5-mile radius. The rooms are exactly as specified here.

But Caryn is the reason I took no time settling in. She goes above and beyond to make her guests feel comfortable and at home. She was there to pick me up from the bus stop when I arrived, despite a four hour delay, to drop me off at 4.30 AM when I left and every single time I needed any kind of advice/ guidance/ directions. I cannot thank you enough, Caryn and Noel, for making my Chicago trip so wonderful. Oh and the kids are absolutely delightful! I can’t wait to meet you guys and stay with you during my next visit to Chicago.

  11. I had a really nice experience at Caryn’s place. The entire family is really kind and Caryn is always there to help you in everything (transportation, english practicing and also she helped me to correct some mistakes in my personal statement). The area is nice, quiet and safe. You can go shopping with Caryn and also do some other activities like playing soccer with the kids (by the way, the play really good for their age so don’t underestimate them). If I ever return to a rotation in Chicago I will contact this homestay for sure! 100% recommended!

  12. I stayed at Caryn’s house for almost a week during my interview season and had an incredible experience. She literally took care of everything so that I can prepare for my interviews and not worry about commute, shopping and a peaceful night’s sleep before the interview day. It’s very hard to care of a stranger if your 3 year old is sick but she multitasked in being a great mom and a promising host. I was there during Chrismas time and her family treated me like one among them. I would recommend anyone to stay there as long as they wish and guarantee close to a 100% satisfaction.

  13. This is literally the best homestay I’ve stayed in so far and Mrs Talty and her family treated me like a family member and made me feel at home. I will sure miss you guys, you are the best :-D. As for the house itself, it is located in a safe neighborhood, spacious and clean. You’ll find everything you want within a walking distance. It is a few blocks away from the CTA bus line that can take you to the orange line train to downtown Chicago. Mrs Talty is always there for you to answer all your questions and help you navigate the city if you’re new to Chicago.

I’ve done many rotations throughout the city of Chicago and I’ve been at many homestays, but this by far is the best one I’ve stayed at. This is truly a home away from home.

Thanks Mrs Talty for your gracious hospitality, the kind one can’t forget. You made me feel so much at home, I’m thinking of it yet…

  14. Caryn & Noel Talty are just a super nice host, very friendly, accommodative and helpful. They live next door with their 4 adorable and smart boys and girl. Caryn is just a nice lady. She is willing to pick you up at the nearest station on the arrival, take you to grocery stores, drop you and pick you up at dr office nearby etc. She is super nice and very welcoming.
The homestay itself located in a quite strategic area, safe and friendly neighborhood, with lots of old trees, flowers and squirrels. I would say almost everything is within walking distance, restaurants, bank, gas station, big grocery stores, starbucks, McD, bus that will take you to downtown Chicago or midway station. There are kitchen, dining room, living room, and even laundry in the house, with plenty of dishes and enough cookware to use for your short term stay. I will strongly recommend this place to everybody who comes to Chicago
